On December 31st, while most people were getting loose at New Year's parties worldwide, Robbie Maddison was busy making history in Las Vegas. The DC FMX rider took on a massive stunt challenge, leaping over 100-feet in front of thousands of revelers in Las Vegas to set a new step-up World Record.
After overcoming what Robbie fully admitted as some serious butterflies in his stomach, the 27-year-old hucked his bike 105 feet in the air, landing on the top of the 96-foot-tall replica Arc de Triomphe in front of Paris Las Vegas.
What goes up must come down, and Robbie's descent from the top of the arch was perhaps the heaviest part of the stunt. From the deck Robbie couldn't even see the roll-in he had to hit to get down safely from the great height, so organizers had to tape down little yellow arrows to give Maddo a runway. He trusted and jumped, dropping 60-plus-feet before successfully landing on the ramp.
Not seen on cameras was the damage done to Robbie's hand when the jarring landing happened. Since he landed so far out (almost to flat) he took the impact on his hands, ripping the skin open between his thumb and forefinger - you could see white bone if you were inclined to look. No worries though mates... he's already healing and his hand will be just fine.
We've got exclusive footage from Robbie's New Year's Eve stunt here at dcshoes.com. The evening of the event we were in Vegas filming, scoring the guerrilla angles and a quick interview with Robbie right before his leap of faith. We also put together some video pieces before the event, checking in on his custom bike set-up and mods and also another interview where Robbie answered questions from fans sent to dcshoes.com.
